It's difficult without actually seeing the room. But of course you need a bed, so, you could either have a single bed with underbed sotrage drawers, or futon that you can use as a seat and then pull down into a bed at night, (very popular in Japan) Maybe you could have an ottoman to sit on at the desk, then that has storage for books and things, Of course wall cupboards will give you more floor space.You can also buy beds that fold up to the wall, could be another option.
